Be Careful With Greenies
Do you give your dog Greenies? They are those green treats that supposedly are good for their teeth and breath.
If you do, be careful.
I was shocked to read this article on the dangers of Greenies on the kirotv website.
Here is an excerpt:
Berkley is the latest of several dogs Dr. Jennifer McBride has operated on after eating teeth cleaning products, mostly Greenies.
“We will see things in abdomens that will dissolve like bones and over time, they will dissolve and go away. But these are mostly indisolvable, so they tend to get stuck more often,” McBride said.
Our investigation discovered the results are sometimes fatal.
I have never tried the Greenies or similar products, but if you do, be sure to read the article and be careful of the size and quantity that you give your dog.
I wonder if the same can be true of rawhides. I asked my vet recently, and she said rawhides are fine and are good for the dog’s teeth, but that I should be careful that she does not eat too much rawhide in a short time.
I guess moderation is best in everything.

i-pets.com counts many veterenarians, animal hospitals and rescues among our customers. They buy our USA manufactured rawhide products and we have not heard complaints from any of them.
Our website answers your question, “Is rawhide safe for dogs?” and many others, at http://www.i-pets.com/help.html#rawhide.
I’m glad you posted this article about the dangers of greenies.

Julie,
Thanks for the link and info on rawhide. I had heard that USA manufactured rawhide is best because it does not contain preservatives. It is hard to find USA rawhide in the stores near me, so I am glad there is a place to order it online.

Thanks so much for this information! I had no idea.
Personally I’ve had huge success with rawhide for my dogs. They love it! They kind of go into this chewing trance, and I can tell that they are really enjoying themselves. And their teeth are in great shape as a result.
Thanks again!
