Dog Rescue Story

Do you ever wonder about the stories behind rescue dogs? (If you are not sure what dog rescue is, I covered it in a previous post here.)

Blogdog tells the story of a dog named Max, who is being rescued after already having had two homes. Surprisingly, he is calm and well-behaved.

I was especially struck by the last paragraph of the story:

Dogs are basically optimists by nature; no matter what’s happening to them at the moment, they always hope for something better. Max had every reason to give up on humanity, and it never once entered his mind. Throughout our trip, Max just kept looking forward to the next adventure, and the next. We think that he’ll make someone a fabulous best buddy, and we hope that he and his new family will have wonderful adventures together for the rest of his days. Read more…

After reading this moving story, you may want to check out Blogdog’s previous posts too. There are some interesting stories about obedience training, with pictures.

Hi Pat — Thanks for posting about Dale’s and my adventure story with Max. Dale has a photo and her own side of the story on her blog. Not sure if your comments take HTML coding, but here’s the URL: http://tuckerthechow.typepad.com .

Most of my dogs have been rescues and rehomes, and it never fails to move me to see how grateful and forgiving rescued dogs can be.

    Pat,

Thanks picking up Max’s story!! His life was so sad up to the point Karen and I rescued him. And yet his spirit was unbroken. He taught me a lot about forgiveness and moving on…after all he is such a happy dog and does not carry a grudge! I am not so sure I would be in a great mood if I had been tied up with huge rope to a stinky basement (which was his bedroom and bathroom)…for over a year…after being rescued from another family that had him tied to a chicken coop. The tips of his ears had been chewed off and he had other minor health issues. But he was a very sweet boy and he will make a great pet!

    Blogdog and Dale,

Thanks for the comments and for more information about Max! It is so good of you to do this rescue work. I was not aware that there are also mixed breed rescue groups - good to know!
