Family Finds Missing Dog After 6 Years

A family in St. Louis lost their golden retriever, Cujo, six years ago when he escaped from their yard. They put up signs, checked all the shelters, and offered a reward, but the dog was never found.

Then last week, a relative recognized the dog when he went to a shelter’s website to find a dog for himself. He recognized Cujo by a heart-shaped white patch on his forehead and his white feet.

It turned out that Cujo had somehow been adopted by an elderly woman in Columbia, Missouri, 120 miles away, six years ago, and when she had to go to a nursing home, Cujo ended up in the shelter.

The most amazing part of the story to me is that the young daughter of the family, Kayla, insisted on hanging up the dog’s Christmas stocking every year. She was only 4 years old when he was lost.

“I had something in my heart,” said Kayla, a fourth-grader, “and I knew he wasn’t gone.”
