		<description>Very helpful article! I would hesitate about going to a breeders&#039; directory to find a dog, though, as anyone with the money can buy a nice-looking spot on the Web and still run a nasty breeding operation. 

I usually direct people to the AKC breed pages, which list contact information for each breed. The Corresponding Secretary of the breed club would know who has dogs available in someone&#039;s area. Breed clubs also exist for FCI breeds and other breeds not recognized by AKC. Those are the folks who make sure that their member breeders adhere to a code of ethics.</description>
