I would hesitate about going to a breeders' directory to find a dog, though, as anyone with the money can buy a nice-looking spot on the Web and still run a nasty breeding operation. I usually direct people to the AKC breed pages, which list contact information for each breed. The Corresponding Secretary of the breed club would know who has dogs available in someone's area. Breed clubs also exist for FCI breeds and other breeds not recognized by AKC. Those are the folks who make sure that their member breeders adhere to a code of ethics. Very helpful article!
