Marley & Me

Book Review:

Marley & Me : Life and Love with the World's Worst Dog Click! For Christmas, I bought myself the new book, Marley & Me, by John Grogan. It was 15th on USA Today’s best seller list on December 19, and they gave it a good review, so I thought I would check it out.

I really enjoyed this book! I highly recommend it to anyone who has a dog or loves dogs. It is a true story of a newspaper columnist’s family and their “bad dog” Marley. It is really well written, and the stories about Marley are both hilarious and touching.

Here is an excerpt from the USA Today review:

“I don’t consider myself one of these nutty dog people who writes these saccharine things about animals,” says Grogan, 48, who lives near Emmaus, Pa., with his wife and their children, Patrick, 13, Connor, 12, and Colleen, 8. “It was the bigger story, the story of our family, the dog, the growth and the gradual melding of all these disparate units into one cohesive thing called a family.”

Hundreds of fans have posted stories and photos of their beloved pets on his website, marleyandme.com.

And many bookstores have hosted special events that include local chapters of the Humane Society, the ASPCA and Labrador retriever clubs.

Marley was trouble, but he also was the best dog in the world, and one that left a lasting legacy. Marley, he writes, “taught me about friendship and selflessness and, above all else, unwavering loyalty.”

I loved how Marley got kicked out of obedience class. He also wreaks all kinds of havoc in the lives of his family, but they still love him and are glad to have him.

It makes me feel better about my new puppy, Bunny, too. She is not nearly as bad as Marley!

If you want to read a heartwarming book about a dog, this is the book for you.

Have my name on a reserve list at our public library for “Marley & Me” - can’t wait. Pictures of him remind me of our “Bad Dog” Tipper, who has slept in our son’s bed since he was born. Tipper is a 9-year-old black lab who tells us what he wants in a way that we understand. How we love him!

I think you will really enjoy the book! I agree, sometimes the bad dogs are the ones we love the most.
