Mixed Breed Dog Wins Online Show
A cute little mixed-breed dog (dachshund and cocker) named Tillie has just won the Dog Show USA online dog show.
Tillie was rescued from a shelter in California last year.
According to the Washington Post,
“This is a classic Cinderella story,” said the tuxedoed Ernie Planck, as he draped a medal and ribbon around Tillie’s tiny neck. “She’s a mixed-breed rescue dog selected from 15,000 entries. She is America’s dog.”
She also received a bouquet of carnations and a crystal water bowl.
NBC and Purina co-sponsor the National Dog Show of purebreds each Thanksgiving in New York that is watched by 20 million viewers. Last spring, they decided to launch a dog show with two firsts: the competition would include mixed breeds and the public would vote for contestants online.
The result is Dog Show USA, which gives equal standing to purebreds and mutts.
“Every dog deserves to have its day in the spotlight,” said Michael Moore, interactive marketing director for Purina. He said the Web site with each dog’s picture and story got half a million visits.
Hooray for mixed-breed shelter dogs! I always knew they were the best!
