Our First Visit to the Dog Groomer
As I wrote earlier, I got my dog, Bunny, at the Humane Society about a month ago. She is a puppy, about 6 or 7 months old.
So now, a month later, she really needed a bath and her nails trimmed. With my old dog, Shelley, I had always given her a bath and trimmed her nails myself. But Bunny is so squirmy, I didn’t think I could do it with her.
So Bunny and I had our first visit with the dog groomer today.
I had never been to a groomer. I thought it was like when I go to have my hair done. You go in, get your hair washed, cut, and whatever, and then go right home. But a the groomer, it turns out that they keep the dog for several hours, and call you when she is done.
When we got there, there were several dogs in different stages of grooming, one little one in a crate, and a couple roaming around the large area behind the counter. One of them was the owner’s dog. They all seemed very content, and Bunny was happy to join them.
When I picked her up, she was having a ball! For one thing, amazingly, she was so fluffy and clean, and she had two little purple bows attached to her ears. She looked like a different dog. And she was so busy playing with the other dogs and investigating the crates and stuff that she hardly noticed me. She was running here and there and having a grand old time.
In fact, when we got home, she was so tired that she took a long nap (very unlike her).
The groomer said that they also do doggy day care, and that I could bring her in sometime for that, just so she can play with the other dogs. That only costs $1 per hour! So I think I will make that a regular thing, every week or two for a few hours. I live alone, and not many of my friends have dogs, so Bunny does not get to see other dogs much. This should be great for her. (Also, next week we start obedience classes, so she will see other dogs then.)
I really enjoyed being at the groomer’s. It was such a happy place. I almost wanted to be a groomer myself! The groomer was having such fun with the dogs and was so good with them. I would highly recommend this whole experience. It will be fun for you and your dog.

It is always nice for a dog to get out and experience different things. They get bored being at home all the time. And I think they enjoy being all clean too (probably because of all the extra attention and petting they get when they are clean).
I took Bunny’s picture when we got home (above). I was hoping you could see the cute purple bows, but they don’t really show up. And it doesn’t show off the fluffy clean aspect too well either. But at least you can see what my new dog looks like! Isn’t she cute?
