Why Do We Love Our Dogs So Much?
Slate has an interesting article by Jon Katz about why we love our dogs so much.
He starts out by telling the story of a dog-loving woman who broke up with her boyfriend when she found out that he was not crazy about dogs and did not love her dog.
Then he goes on to talk about some research into why we humans go to such great lengths out of love for our dogs.

I find this whole idea very interesting. I have heard something similar before. Like Katz, I don’t feel that this diminishes my love of dogs at all. If anything, it just shows how intelligent they are, that they have adapted to us so well.
By the way, Jon Katz is the author of A Good Dog: The Story of Orson, Who Changed My Life, A Dog Year: Twelve Months, Four Dogs, and Me
, and several other dog books.
He has a new book coming out in July of this year — Dog Days: Dispatches from Bedlam Farm.
